The 11 Commandments of Firearm Safety

A Community Collaboration

Supporting and promoting the traditional "10 Commandments of Firearm Safety", this brochure offers one more: when someone in the home is experiencing a mental health crisis, removing firearms from the environment, even temporarily, may save a life.

Law enforcement, CCW instructors and firearm vendors lent their expertise to "help keep a right from becoming a wrong".

Inspired by a similar program implemented in New Hampshire, The 11 Commandments of Firearm Safety brochure was first created for Shasta County in 2012. Updates were completed in 2016 and 2021 after receiving input and feedback from local law enforcement, CCW instructors and firearm vendors. Their continued collaboration and insight helps to ensure this resource best serves the needs of Shasta County residents.
