The Anderson-Cottonwood Irrigation District (ACID) held a presentation at the April 25, 2023 Shasta County Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss the start of irrigation for the water year 2023. The ACID announced that they would be starting irrigation that afternoon, and the valves have been open at churn creek bottom since last week's First Annual ACID Landowner and Water User appreciation Luncheon held at the diversion dam in Redding.
The good news is that Shasta Lake is very close to being full. This means that there is enough water to meet the agricultural community's needs for the upcoming year. Typically, water rates for water users are $87 per acre, plus a $115 application fee. However, due to subsidies, this year the rates have been reduced to only $1 per acre, with a $24 application fee.
The ACID emphasized that water is essential to the agriculture community, and they are grateful for this year's rainfall. The Anderson-Cottonwood Irrigation District is a public agency that provides water to agricultural landowners in the Anderson and Cottonwood areas.
The district is responsible for managing the water resources in the region and ensuring that there is enough water to meet the agricultural community's needs. The drought has been a major concern in recent years, with State allocations hitting an all time low in 2022. The ACID has been working hard to find solutions to ensure there is enough water to go around. Despite the challenges, they remain committed to providing reliable and affordable water to the local agricultural community
