Department of Resource Management Operational Overview

The Department of Resource Management was created in 1992 as a result of the merger of four separate and previously independent departments or divisions. This move was prompted by the Board of Supervisors as both a cost saving measure as well as an effort to add greater efficiencies to the operations of these four units. The net result of the reorganization has been (1) a reduction in the number of permits required for a variety of development projects, (2) an elimination or reduction in the amount of fees associated with the processing of these applications, and (3) significant reductions in the time required to process applications.

Shasta County Pre-Approved ADU Plans

The Department of Resource Management is pleased to offer, free of charge, to property owners and contractors building in the unincorporated areas of the County, seven unique Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) designs. Each design has been approved for construction in the County for up to 50lb and 70lb snow load zones and include a variety of amenities and options to choose from.

*“BUILD SHASTA” On-Line Building Permit Applications

The Department of Resource Management is now accepting building permit applications with the new “Build Shasta” web portal. The current list of online permit applications is available on the Build Shasta Web Portal Instructions page. Online applications are processed after completeness is verified and then in the order they are received. When an application requires additional information or when the permit is ready for issuance, you will be notified by email.
