Would You Like to Serve on the Shasta County Assessment Appeals Board? Applications Are Being Accepted.

Shasta County currently has an opening for an individual to serve on the Assessment Appeals Board. The Assessment Appeals Board was established to decide disputes between property owners and the Assessor's Office. Its duties include equalizing the valuation of the taxable property in the county for the purpose of taxation, equalizing and adjusting penal and escaped assessments on the roll, and other duties as required by law.

Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years’ experience in California as any of:

  • Certified Public Accountant/Public Accountant
  • Licensed real estate broker
  • Attorney
  • Property appraiser, accredited by a national recognized professional organization, certified by Office of Real Estate Appraisers, or certified by State Board of Equalization

Must have competent knowledge of property appraisal and taxation and may not have been an employee of the Assessor’s Office within three prior years.

Meeting Information:

The Assessment Appeals Board meets once annually, in the Board of Supervisors Chambers at the Shasta County Administrative Center.

Compensation:

$75 for whole-day hearings, $40 for half day.
