On April 22, 2025, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an ordinance to rezone several parcels around Hawes Farm, clearing the way for the development of amusement park attractions at the long-standing agritourism site in eastern Shasta County.

The rezoning approval marks the culmination of over 15 years of planning and collaboration between Hawes Farm owner Greg Hawes, county officials, and community stakeholders.

The ordinance includes key conditions to address community concerns, such as:

  • A 45-foot height limit on amusement rides

  • A prohibition on stadium-style lighting

  • Restrictions on operating hours and noise levels

Public opposition to the project, which had been significant in earlier meetings, appeared to have diminished significantly. Only one individual voiced concern at the April 22 meeting, compared to nearly 50 speakers at the prior session.

Board Chair Kevin Crye noted the change: “The reduction in public opposition reflects the extensive efforts by past and current boards, County Counsel, and residents to find a balanced solution.”

Hawes hopes to open the new attractions to the public by this fall, although construction timelines could affect the launch of seasonal events.
