BOS meeting 2025

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors held its first meeting of 2025 on January 7, marking a significant start to the new year with leadership appointments, fresh perspectives, and initiatives.

In a closely contested 3-2 decision, the Board elected District 1 Supervisor Kevin W. Crye as Chair for a second consecutive year, with District 5 Supervisor Chris Kelstrom also retaining his position as Vice Chair. This outcome reflects a continuation of leadership roles, deviating from the traditional annual rotation of these assignments.

The Board unanimously approved the 2025 meeting calendar, ensuring a well-structured schedule for public engagement and decision-making throughout the year.

This meeting was particularly notable as the first for three newly seated supervisors:

  • Allen Long representing District 2
  • Corkey Harmon representing District 3
  • Matt Plummer representing District 4

Each brings unique expertise and a fresh perspective to the Board. Residents are encouraged to learn more about their new representatives by visiting the Board of Supervisors’ webpage: shastacounty.gov/board-supervisors.

Employee of the Year Recognition

The Board proudly named Tim Lewis as Shasta County’s 2024 Employee of the Year, recognizing his exemplary service, dedication, and outstanding contributions to the county.

Strategic Planning for Shasta County’s Future

In a unanimous decision, the Board approved the formation of an ad hoc committee consisting of Supervisors Plummer and Long to develop a comprehensive County Strategic Plan. This initiative will define countywide priorities, establish both short-term and long-term goals, and create a clear roadmap for the county’s future. A strategic plan offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Enhanced Resource Allocation: Aligning budget decisions with clearly defined priorities.
  • Focused Policy Direction: Guiding policy-making to meet community needs effectively.
  • Improved Accountability: Establishing measurable outcomes to track progress and success.

This forward-looking effort demonstrates the Board’s commitment to thoughtful, strategic governance that benefits all Shasta County residents.

Investing in Local Air Travel

Finally, the Board unanimously approved an additional $100,000 contribution to support efforts to secure a direct flight between Redding and Denver. This investment aligns with ongoing initiatives to enhance regional connectivity and economic growth through expanded air travel options.

With new leadership, ambitious goals, and a clear focus on strategic planning, 2025 promises to be an impactful year for Shasta County.
