The Shasta County Department of Public Works recently completed a vital bridge deck replacement on Coleman Fish Hatchery Road at Unnamed Creek Bridge. The bridge, which was previously failing and reduced to a single lane, serves as the only road in and out of the Coleman National Fish Hatchery. This repair was crucial to ensuring safe and reliable access, especially given the frequent heavy water trucks used for fish planting operations.
The project involved replacing the single-span, reinforced concrete slab bridge deck, along with reconstructing a portion of the existing abutments to support the new structure. The work also included paving new 15-foot-long roadway approaches and rebuilding the shoulders within the project limits.
Morgan Creek Construction, Inc. (MCC) served as the prime contractor and successfully completed all work within the original 60-day contract schedule, finishing on October 7, 2024. The total construction cost was $364,000, fully funded by gas tax revenue.
The project, designed and managed by Shasta County, restores the bridge to full capacity and ensures the ongoing safety and operational needs of the Fish Hatchery. For more information, please see the attached project details.
