RABA bus transportation is now FREE throughout all of Shasta County for the Summer! The Redding Area Bus Authority is launching a fare-free summer in an effort to restore lost ridership from the COVID-19 pandemic and reintroduce area residents and visitors to public transportation.
RABA began the Fare Free service starting on Saturday, July 1, 2023 and will continue to provide free rides on RABA through Saturday, September 30, 2023.
On Monday, June 26, 2023, the RABA Board of Directors approved fare-free service on all RABA routes, including local routes in Redding and Anderson, intercity routes to and from Shasta Lake and Anderson, the Beach Bus to Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, the commuter route to Burney and demand response service for persons with disabilities unable to access RABA routes.
The Low Carbon Transit Operations Program through Caltrans - District 2 is funding this effort based on a grant awarded to the Shasta Regional Transportation Agency and RABA. Each boarding on a RABA vehicle will be reimbursed through this grant for the summer.
With this effort, transit in Shasta County is now free for the next three months, seven days a week. On weekdays and Saturdays, area residents and visitors can use RABA’s blue buses, and on Sundays, area residents and visitors can use ShastaConnect, a door-to-door reservation-based service.
“The goal of the fare-free summer is to reintroduce RABA and the Sunday ShastaConnect service to area residents and visitors,” says John Andoh, Transit General Manager for RABA. “RABA has many more improvements coming in the next few months in an effort to provide reliable, efficient, and cost-effective public transportation services to Shasta County.”
