Genasys Protect now in Shasta County

genasys Protect

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) and its public safety partners are pleased to announce that Genasys Protect (formerly known as Zonehaven Aware) is now online in Shasta County. Genasys Protect is a “zone-based” evacuation tool used by many communities across the country, including many neighboring counties.

Over the past few months, public safety agencies in Shasta County have been working with the county’s GIS Team and Genasys Protect to divide Shasta County into “zones”. Each zone has a unique name and number on the protect.genasys.com map. In the event of wildfires or other emergency situations, law enforcement and other public safety agencies can quickly select affected zones to help inform the public of critical information.

The public should note that, when using the Genasys Protect system, authorities will use zone names and numbers in CodeRed and Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages, so it is critical to be signed up to receive CodeRed alerts. You can sign up or confirm you are already enrolled here: https://www.shascom911.com/. Affected zone names and numbers can also be listed in Media Releases and social media posts.

Now that the Genasys Protect system is active, members of the public are encouraged to go to protect.genasys.com, enter their address into the interactive map search bar and make note of the zone their residence is located in. The public may also find it helpful to make note of zones they frequent often like work, schools, and homes of loved-ones.
When zones are used to assist evacuations during an emergency, residents will be able to go to the website protect.genasys.com and see information such as: what zones are under an evacuation order or warning, road closures, shelter locations, collection points for evacuated animals, and more.

Public safety partners who have access and can utilize protect.genasys.com to assist in evacuations include: Anderson Police Department, Anderson Fire, CAL FIRE, California Highway Patrol, Redding Police Department, Redding Fire Department, Shasta County Fire, and Shascom.

Protect.genasys.com is another “tool in the toolbox” to help inform the public during emergencies. Again, the public is encouraged to sign up for CodeRED alerts, pay attention to EAS alerts when issued, heed door-to-door evacuation orders and warnings, and check to see if Alert FM devices (for areas with little to no cell phone and internet service and/or susceptibility to public safety power shut-offs) are appropriate.
