Increased Outflows from Shasta Dam

Shasta Dam

Shasta Dam has opened its top level water release outflows for the first time since 2017.

With the recent increase in rainfall, Shasta is currently at 87% capacity.  Releases are made according to U.S. Army Corp of Engineers(USACE) Sacramento flood control rules.

On Thursday, releases from Keswick Dam into the Sacramento River increased from 25K cubic feet per second (cfs) to 30K cfs, and will soon increase to 35K cfs.

With the increased outflow, residents and visitors will see an increase in the water level and flows along the Sacramento River.  There is likelihood that releases will continue to increase.

As you venture out to enjoy the river, please prioritize safety and stay informed about changing conditions, adhere to any posted advisories, and approach the River with caution.
