Shasta County honored Kandace Davy, a registered nurse at Shasta Regional Medical Center, for her extraordinary actions that saved a mother's life during a school field trip at Hawes Farm.
On October 18, Kandace was approached by another parent who sought her help after a woman collapsed. Upon assessing the situation, Kandace determined the victim was not breathing and had no pulse. Reacting swiftly, she performed CPR for an astonishing 17 minutes until emergency responders arrived. Her quick thinking and endurance ensured the woman could return to her family—a wife and mother whose life might have been tragically cut short.
Kandace’s lifesaving efforts also highlighted the importance of emergency preparedness. Hawes Farm did not have an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on-site during the incident. Recognizing this critical gap, Shasta Regional Medical Center has since pledged to donate an AED to the farm and provide comprehensive training for staff and volunteers.
Shasta County applauds Kandace for her heroic actions and is proud to celebrate her as an example of what makes our community exceptional.
