March 29th Declared "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day"

Vietnam Veterans Recognized at Board of Supervisors Meeting

Shasta County has named March 29th, 2023 "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day".

This day marks a significant milestone in our nation's history, honoring the bravery and sacrifice of the men and women who served in the Vietnam War.

The Vietnam War was one of the most controversial conflicts in American history, with many people opposing the war and questioning its purpose. More than 2.7 million Americans served in Vietnam between 1955 and 1975, with over 58,000 losing their lives in the conflict.

Unfortunately, upon their return home, many Vietnam veterans were not given the recognition or appreciation they deserved. They were often met with hostility and disrespect, making the transition back to civilian life even more challenging. It is only in recent years that our country has started to acknowledge the sacrifices these men and women made for our nation.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day is a chance for us to finally say thank you to those who served in the Vietnam War. It is an opportunity for us to recognize their bravery, honor their sacrifice, and acknowledge the difficulties they faced when they returned home.

Shasta County is no exception, as we join in the national effort to welcome home our Vietnam veterans. We thank them for their selflessness and dedication to our country. It is because of their service that we continue to enjoy the freedoms and liberties that make our country great.

On this day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember the sacrifices made by our Vietnam veterans. Let us show our gratitude and appreciation for their service, and let us never forget the sacrifices they made for us. Welcome home, Vietnam veterans, and thank you for your service!
