As we step into 2025, Shasta County has had the pleasure of welcoming three new members to the Board of Supervisors. Their leadership and perspectives will help shape the future of our county and ensure we continue to deliver exceptional service to our residents. I’d like to take a moment to introduce Supervisors Allen Long, Corkey Harmon, and Matt Plummer, and share some of the key initiatives we’ll be focusing on this year.
Introducing Our New Supervisors
Allen Long, District 2 With 25 years of law enforcement experience, including two decades with the Redding Police Department, Allen brings a deep understanding of public safety to his new role. Allen’s goals as Supervisor include bolstering Sheriff patrols, increasing wildfire prevention resources, and improving mental health services. He is also committed to strengthening Shasta County’s economy, ensuring affordable insurance for residents, and fostering respectful governance on the Board of Supervisors. With his collaborative approach, Allen is already proving to be an asset to the Board.
Corkey Harmon, District 3 Corkey Harmon offers decades of entrepreneurial and project management expertise to his role as a supervisor. His leadership in managing large teams and complex operations equips him to address Shasta County’s governance challenges with a business-minded approach. Corkey’s priorities include fostering collaboration within the Board of Supervisors, supporting law enforcement to enhance public safety, and streamlining County operations to run more efficiently. He is also committed to preserving residents’ rights and rural values while creating a positive workplace culture for County employees.
Matt Plummer, District 4 Matt Plummer brings a wealth of leadership experience as a nonprofit consultant, organizational trainer, and business executive. As the Founder and CEO of a Redding-based consulting firm, he has helped companies, enhance productivity, critical thinking, and employee retention. As Supervisor, Matt aims to reduce homelessness, improve public safety, and enhance infrastructure, leveraging his strategic planning background to establish measurable goals and ensure County initiatives deliver maximum benefit to residents. His leadership on the newly formed ad hoc committee for the County Strategic Plan reflects his commitment to establishing a clear and actionable vision for Shasta County’s future.
I encourage all residents to learn more about their new representatives and engage with them as we work together to make Shasta County an even better place to live, work, and thrive.
Key Initiatives for 2025
The new year brings exciting opportunities to advance our county’s priorities. Here are some of the initiatives we’ll be focusing on:
1. Developing a County Strategic Plan One of our top priorities for 2025 is the creation of a comprehensive County Strategic Plan. Led by Supervisors Plummer and Long, this plan will establish clear goals and priorities to guide our decision-making and resource allocation. By aligning our efforts with the community’s needs, we aim to create a more focused and efficient government that delivers measurable results.
2. Expanding Air Travel Connectivity The Board has approved additional funding to support efforts to secure a direct flight between Redding and Denver. This initiative reflects our commitment to enhancing regional connectivity, boosting economic growth, and making Shasta County more accessible to visitors and businesses alike.
3. Strengthening Community Engagement Transparency and communication remain cornerstones of our governance. In addition to our weekly e-newsletter, we’ll continue to explore new ways to keep residents informed and involved in county decisions. I invite everyone to subscribe and follow us on social media to stay up-to-date on the latest developments - https://linktr.ee/shastacounty.
With a renewed focus and fresh leadership, 2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for Shasta County. Our new Supervisors bring expertise, energy, and a shared vision for a brighter future. Together, we will continue to build a county that meets the needs of our residents and positions us for long-term success.
