PG&E Undergrounding Work Forecast Update for Shasta County

PGE Undergrounding

On March 27, 2023, PG&E submitted its 2023 Wildfire Mitigation Plan (WMP) to the California Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety. The WMP outlines all of our wildfire safety work including undergrounding. The full filing can be found at pge.com/wildfiremitigationplan and a summary from PG&E of the undergrounding progress and forecast work in Shasta County is below.

Work Forecast

PG&E’s 2023 goal is to underground 350 miles of lines in areas where they can have the greatest impact on reducing wildfire risk. PG&E is continuing to take into consideration community and neighborhood impacts that undergrounding projects can have as they plan work for 2023 and beyond.

Currently, 77 miles of undergrounding is forecast in Shasta County for 2023 and 22 miles of undergrounding in 2024. These forecasts can change as risk models evolve to address the greatest wildfire risk. Forecast miles also exceed annual targets to ensure they are able to meet annual undergrounding goals. Mileage in the community may increase or decrease due to access, weather, permitting or other constraints.

While this update represents a decrease in forecast mileage for 2023 since our last update, They wanted to note that in most cases, projects no longer estimated to be completed for 2023 will be completed in future years
