The Shasta County Department of Public Works is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Shasta County Regional Septage Ponds Cleanout Project. This vital facility, one of the only permitted septage disposal sites still operating in Northern California, plays a crucial role in managing waste for our region.
As part of its biannual maintenance schedule, the facility’s primary pond was drained, allowing 816 tons of septage solids to be dried, hauled away, and properly disposed of in compliance with environmental standards. This extensive process ensures the continued safe operation of the facility, which is entirely funded by user fees and regulated by the State Regional Water Quality Control Board.
The cleanout was carried out by Iron Mountain Construction at a contract cost of $432,000. The Shasta County Regional Septage Ponds remain a model of efficient and sustainable waste management, serving our community and protecting our local environment.
The County extends its gratitude to the Public Works team for their dedication and oversight throughout this complex project. Their expertise and commitment ensure the success of essential infrastructure initiatives that benefit residents across Shasta County.
