Shasta County Passes Resolution in Opposition to California SB 2: What this Means for CCW Holders

Notice

On January 23, 2024, in a 3-2 vote, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors approved Resolution 2024-007, empowering citizens possessing a valid CCW permit and a registered and permitted firearm to carry within designated common areas on county property. The designated areas will be clearly identified by Public Notice signage.

It is important to note that the implementation of California Senate Bill 2, which Resolution 2024-007 was crafted in response to, is currently stayed by a federal court order and is not in effect. As a result, the rules in place prior to 2024 remain applicable.

While the Resolution takes immediate effect, the County is diligently working on various tasks before placing signage at the entrances of designated buildings. These tasks include public safety announcements, staff and security personnel training, and crucial discussions with labor, County Counsel, and the Board of Supervisors.

The forthcoming signage will closely resemble the attached example, providing clear guidance to individuals regarding the allowed common areas on county property where carrying is permitted.
