The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program is designed to help you build a more stable financial future. When you are getting rental assistance, any time your income goes up or down your share of rent adjusts accordingly. The benefit of FSS is when your rent share goes up because of earned income, HUD will deposit money into a savings account on your behalf. At the end of the program, if you have met all of your goals, you get a check for the balance of the savings account. Watching the short video here on this page will give you a great understanding of how the program works.
Before you apply for this program make sure your answers to ALL questions below are YES
1. Do you currently get section 8 (housing choice voucher) rental assistance from the Shasta County Housing Authority?
2. Do you live OUTSIDE the city limits of Redding? (if you live inside city limits, please contact the City of Redding Housing Authority to ask about their FSS program).
3. Are you willing to work and engage in job search activities (if already employed that is ok too)?
4. Are you prepared to work toward your goals and communicate with your FSS coach regularly?
