Amanda Hemenway has been a dedicated member of the Juvenile Rehabilitation Facility since 2014, when she started as a Juvenile Detention Officer I. Since then, Amanda has advanced through the department to her current position as a Supervising Juvenile Detention Officer. Amanda has played a critical role in developing and improving programs such as Rivers Edge Academy and the Secure Youth Treatment Facility in response to changes in youth law, creating meaningful opportunities for education, rehabilitation, and life-skills development. 

Amanda does not wait for direction to improve operations; instead, she actively seeks opportunities to enhance programming, education, and rehabilitative services. Amanda’s forward‑thinking approach, creativity, and willingness to take ownership of new initiatives has resulted in meaningful, lasting improvements that benefit youth, staff and the organization as a whole.  Amanda consistently exemplifies the highest level of professionalism in her role as a Supervising Juvenile Detention Officer, leading by example through her integrity accountability, and strong work ethic, earning the respect of youth, staff, and community partners alike. Amanda maintains a calm, composed, and solution-oriented approach in challenging situations and consistently upholds department policies, safety standards, and ethical practices. Respect and impartiality are a key factor in Amanda’s position, and she ensures decisions are guided by policy, law, and the best interests of those served. 

Amanda models leadership by being transparent, trustworthy, and principled, even in challenging or high-pressure situations. Amanda is supportive of her team, readily offering guidance, support, and assistance to fellow supervisors and line staff alike by sharing the workload, picking up overtime shifts, working on the floor when needed, and serving as a trusted safety officer. Amanda’s willingness to collaborate, communicate openly, and support others strengthens team cohesion, boosts morale, and contributes to the overall effectiveness and success of the department.

Amanda consistently demonstrates the behaviors, values, and standards that others can aspire to, including integrity, accountability, and compassion. By mentoring youth, supporting her colleagues, and leading by example in daily operations, Amanda inspires those around her to perform at their best and uphold the mission of Shasta County Probation.
