Commercial Recycling Mandates

Effective July 1, 2012, California Assembly Bill 341 requires any business, non-profit organization, governmental agency, or school generating four or more cubic yards of solid waste per week, or any multi-family complex with five or more units to implement a recycling program. Recycling under AB 341 includes paper, paper products, cardboard, glass, metal, and specific plastics. Effective January 1, 2019, California Assembly Bill 1826 requires any business, non-profit organization, governmental agency, school, or multi-family complex with five or more units generating two or more cubic yards of solid waste per week to collect and recycle organic materials. Organic materials include yard trimmings, food waste, and non-treated wood waste. Effective July 1, 2020, California Assembly Bill 827 requires any business, non-profit organization, or governmental agency subject to AB341 and/or AB1826, to provide recycling and organics containers at front-of-house to collect waste generated by customers from products they purchase and consume on the premises. These containers must be placed adjacent to trash containers. The collection containers at the front-of-house are to be visible, easily accessible, and clearly marked. Recycling bins or containers must be made available in all common areas in multi-family dwellings with five or more units.

Participate in Curbside Recycling Collection

Businesses located in the unincorporated areas of central Shasta County and the cities of Anderson and Shasta Lake can sign up for Waste Management, Inc.’s curbside recycling collection service. Call Waste Management at 1(800) 479-8101 for more information.

  • City of Redding Transfer Station - Accepts untreated/unpainted/unstained lumber and wood, and yard trimmings.
  • Shasta-Sustainable Resource Management, 20811 Industry Rd., Anderson - Accepts treetops, limbs, woody yard waste, pallets and crates, logging slash, clean scrap lumber, plywood, and particle board.
