The Shasta County Grand Jury – Making a Difference in Our Community

The grand jury is the only independent oversight body with the power to investigate and report on the operations of local public agencies, including the county, cities, school districts and special district governments.

Each grand jury chooses which subjects to investigate during its term. If an investigation leads to significant findings, the grand jury may issue a report about what if finds. If the findings identify operational problems, the report will also include recommendations to solve those problems. These reports are aimed at increasing the accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness of local government. In this way, the grand jurors act as the community’s eyes and ears to improve the local government agencies that serve the people of Shasta County.
