New Payments on Former CalWORKs Cases
A law that was passed and went into effect May of 2024 could lead to parents or legal guardians who used to receive CalWORKs in California, receiving payments. These cases are called “former assistance” or “former CalWORKS” cases.
Who Might Receive These Payments
For anyone who received financial support through CalWORKS might get these payments if there is a past due amount that was accrued when assistance was being received.
When You Might Receive These Payments
The law applies to payments made after May 1, 2024.
How Will You Receive These Payments
Payments will be sent to your bank account via direct deposit or to your electronic payment card that you may currently be receiving child support payments on.
If you do not currently receive electronic payments you can go to: State Disbursement Unit | CA Child Support Services to enroll.
If you have not signed up for direct deposit or to receive electronic payments, you will receive payment by paper check to the address we have on file for you.
