California Environmental Quality Act Filings(CEQA)

Also Called a Fish & Wildlife Filing

The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) is a California statute passed in 1970, shortly after the United States federal government passed the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), to institute a statewide policy of environmental protection.

The Shasta County Clerk's office is  responsible for filing and posting documents for developing or continuing projects within the county that may have a potential effect on the environment.  We review each document for filing, post the document for the public review period and then return the document to the responsible agency.

For more detailed information concerning CEQA filings, please visit https://www.opr.ca.gov/ceqa/

You may file in-person at the County Clerk’s office or by mail.

  • Please complete a cover sheet (found below).
  • Submit your CEQA determination documents with the cover sheet to our office, in person or by mail. We require the original determination documents, with a wet signature present.
  • Pay the County Filing Fee:
    • In person: We accept payment in cash, pre-printed checks, money orders, and credit or debit cards. There is an additional convenience fee for paying with credit or debit cards. We do not accept American Express.
    • By Mail: We accept pre-printed checks, money orders, or cashier checks as payment for mailed applications. Make payable to Shasta County Clerk.
