Office Processing Information:

Appointments are not required. Passport services are available Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. 
  • The Shasta County Clerk's office is an Acceptance Agency for the U.S. Department of State: Passport Services. 
  • Applications for first-time passports, lost passport replacements, and passport renewals for minors must submit applications, in-person, at an Acceptance Agency. 
    • Our office reviews, accepts and mails passport applications.
    • Our office does not create or issue passports.
    • Our office does not offer passport photo services. Many drugstores and copy & shipping centers offer these services, however. 
  • Processing time is about 20-30 minutes per application. 
  • Children ages 16 through 17 must appear with one legal parent or guardian.
  • Children under the age of 16 must appear with both legal parents or guardians.
  • There are two separate payments required for each application.   
    • Payment for the passport itself must be in the form of a check, money order or cashier's check made payable to the U.S. Department of State. 
    • The processing fee of $35.00 is separate from the passport fees and is paid to the Shasta County Clerk. We accept payment in cash, preprinted checks, money orders, and credit or debit cards. There is an additional convenience fee for paying with credit or debit cards. We do not accept American Express.
      • Our office also charges a fee of $0.50 per copy made, which will be added to $35.00 processing fee, if applicable. 

 


 

In Person Application Processing Required if:

  • You are applying for your first U.S. Passport.
  • You are under age 16.
  • Your previous U.S. Passport was:
    • issued when you were under age 16, or
    • lost, stolen, or damaged, or
    • issued more than 15 years ago.

Required for New Applications:

Renewal by mail eligible if your most recent U.S. Passport:

  • Is undamaged, in your possession, and can be submitted. 
  • Was issued when you were age 16 or older.
  • Was issued within the last 15 years, or expired less than 5 years.
  • Was issued in your current name or you can legally document your name change.

Required for Mail Renewals:

Please note: You do not need to appear in-person at an acceptance agency to complete your passport renewal. If you would like to come to our office and have us review your renewal, we are more than happy to assist and provide mailing instructions.
