Board Opposes AB-742 Attempt to Prohibit use of Police K9's

Police Dog

The Board voted unanimously to approve and send a letter opposed to AB-742. This bill would prevent the use of police canines for the purpose of arrest, apprehension, or any form of crowd control.

The Board and Sheriffs office agree that Police dogs are an invaluable, non-lethal part of agencies across the country. To eliminate the use of canines would be a huge loss for law enforcement in CA. It could also potentially create more dangerous environments for criminals during apprehension but removing a non-lethal tool used by officers.

The letter of opposition as been composed by County staff in collaboration with Shasta County Sheriff Michael L. Johnson.
