Employee of the Month - Sept '23
Cela Chao, Supervising Accountant, has been named the Shasta County Employee of the Month for September 2023!
Cela interacts with staff from all branches within the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA). Her work may not be as visible to outsiders, but the agency would be lost without her. Cela is responsible for providing regular information and data reports to internal HHSA staff and does an outstanding job meeting these data requests, whether they are unique or routine deliverables. She is diligent about performing her duties and helping others any way she can. A few years ago, Cela was tasked with pulling data for an audit. The data was several years old and came from two different systems. Once she started looking into the data, she realized that it was going to take significantly longer to gather than previously expected and it was going to require a lot of manual work to get the data into a usable format. Cela worked tirelessly, spending countless hours on the project in order to provide the most accurate data possible.
Cela is motived from within. She takes great pride in the work that she produces and makes sure it is accurate and on time. She treats everyone with respect and consistently exceeds expectations in her quality of work. There have been several new initiatives at the state level which have had a huge impact on HHSA’s day-to-day operations. Cela has spent many hours in analyzing these changes and has presented her findings to upper management to assist them in making informed decisions impacting the agency.
In the four years Cela has been with HHSA, she has streamlined several processes. One such process is a database that she created for uploading data to the state. This process used to take eight to twelve hours to complete, she was able to streamline the process to under 30 minutes. Cela is an excellent team member. She has the ability to balance listening with interactive comments and questions. This enables her to quickly understand the task and generate ideas to solve problems. She welcomes ideas from others and helps them without hesitation.
Cela is the optimum mix of technical knowledge, skill, ability, kindness, and leadership. Cela is truly an asset for HHSA and Shasta County.
