Captain Stonehouse was born and raised in Shasta County.  He went to West Valley High School and then to Shasta College where he received an AA degree in Administration of Justice.  He attended the Butte College 111th Police Academy and graduated in June of 2003.

He was hired with the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office in August of 2003 and worked patrol for approximately four and a half years.  While working at the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office he was a member of their SWAT team, he was a certified DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) and worked OHV assignments.

Captain Stonehouse was hired with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office in February of 2008 and was stationed in the City of Shasta Lake.  While working in the City of Shasta Lake, he was a member of the ATMU Team, Dive Team, and became a Field Training Officer.  In March of 2011, he was awarded the Shasta Damboree Officer of the year.  In March of 2010 and April of 2012, he was awarded the MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) award for DUI enforcement.

He transferred into the Major Crimes Unit and was a detective for approximately 3 years.  In 2013, he received the award for Shasta County Deputy of the Year.  He then promoted to Sergeant in the City of Shasta Lake.  He worked as a patrol sergeant for several years in the City of Shasta Lake, South County Station, and Burney Station.  During this time, he spearheaded the Peer Support Team and was an assistant FTO coordinator.

Captain Stonehouse transferred into the Administrative Sergeant position in 2020.  While in this position he was in charge of the training cadre along with many other administrative duties.  He promoted to Lieutenant in July of 2020 and was stationed at the Coroner’s Office.  He was also the Lieutenant in charge of the Civil Unit.  While at the Coroner’s Office, he enrolled in California Coast University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in December of 2022.  He is currently enrolled in the master’s program at California Coast University.  He also has his POST Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, and Management certificates. 

He was promoted to Captain in July of 2022 and is in charge of the Custody Division.
