About:

Chief O’Hara joined the fire service as a volunteer with Shasta County Fire Department and served from 1998-2000. Chief O’Hara began his career with CAL FIRE in 2000 as a Firefighter I in the Shasta Trinity Unit. In 2003, Chief O’Hara accepted a Fire Firefighter II position in Riverside Unit and then later promoted to permanent Fire Apparatus Engineer in 2005. In 2008, he transferred to the Tehama-Glenn Unit as a Fire Apparatus Engineer and later promoted to Fire Captain in TGU where he worked as a Fire Captain B at Ishi Conservation Camp, Fire Captain A at Elk Creek Fire Station and Red Bluff Headquarters Fire Station, and served as a Helitack Captain at Vina Helitack Base. 

 In 2016, Chief O’Hara promoted to Battalion Chief in the Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit assigned to Lake County Battalion 18. In 2018, he transferred back to the Shasta Trinity Unit where he worked as the Battalion Chief at Redding Air Attack Base and field Battalion assignments. In 2020, Chief O’Hara promoted to Assistant Chief of Administration in the Shasta Trinity Unit. In 2021 he became the Deputy Chief of Operations.  Chief O’Hara has served as CAL FIRE SHU Unit Chief and Shasta County Fire Department Chief and County Fire Warden since September 2022.

 Chief O’Hara has served on Incident Management Teams for six years holding positions in aviation, operations and most recently as the Deputy Incident Commander for Incident Management Team #5. Chief O’Hara is active on several committees and working groups and has participated on several training cadres including C-234, C-300, C-400, and Air Support Group Supervisor. He has an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Shasta Community College.
