The Battalion is under the direct supervision of Battalion Chief Tim Whitehurst. Battalion 2 includes two Shasta
County Fire Department volunteer fire companies located in the communities of Montgomery Creek and Oak
Run. During CAL FIRE’s peak staffing period, Hillcrest, Diddy Wells, and Buckhorn stations are staffed with one
type three fire engine each.

Each volunteer fire company in Battalion 2 houses a Type II structure fire engine, a Type III wildland fire
engine, rescue unit, and water tender. These companies are actively involved in recruitment, training,
emergency response, facility and equipment maintenance, and various fundraising activities. The communities
located within the Battalion pose a variety of emergency response challenges to fire personnel including
industrial and commercial structures, large power distribution facilities, and a variety of dynamic fuel and
topography types.
