Investigations is part of the Enforcement Division and oversees the Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit, the Property and Evidence Lab. It additionally works as a liaison with the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force (SINTF), and the North State Initiative California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (NSICAL-MMET).
Crime Lab/Property and Evidence
The Sheriff's Office Crime Lab/Property and Evidence is located on Breslauer Way and provides investigative and evidentiary services to the unincorporated areas of the county as well as within the City of Shasta Lake.
Periodically, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office utilizes a third party auction company to sell adjudicated or unclaimed evidence and property which may include such things as small electronics, computer equipment, household items, cellular telephones, automobile accessories, sporting goods, jewelry and other similar type items. Major Crimes Unit
The Major Crimes Unit is comprised of eight investigative positions, one sergeant, and a lieutenant. The unit's primary responsibility is to conduct thorough and comprehensive investigations into serious and violent crimes, to include:
- Homicide
- Robbery
- Aggravated assault
- Kidnapping
- Sexual assault crimes
The Major Crimes Unit works closely with local allied agencies including the Redding Police Department, Anderson Police Department, Shasta County District Attorney's Office, California Highway Patrol, California Department of Justice and the FBI.
Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force
The Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force (SINTF) is a collaborative effort to reduce narcotics within Shasta County. It is comprised of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Shasta County Probation, Shasta County District Attoney, and California Highway Patrol.
