The Shasta County Sheriff's Office Provides...Upon Request:

  • A response to the emergency needs of a victim/witness on a 24-hour basis.
  • Information outlining the criminal justice system, and what a victim should know about his/her role.
  • Information about becoming an effective witness.
  • Information regarding property release procedures.

By Law...You have the right, as a crime victim or witness:

  • To go to the Superior Court to request a restraining order, to keep a person from contacting and/or abusing you, at home, place of business, or children's school, an order for child custody, support, or an order that either or both parties participate in counseling.
  • To be free from intimidation.
  • To be told of financial assistance and social services available to you, and how to apply for them.
  • To file a civil action to recover damages for personal injuries and property damage sustained as the victim of a crime.
  • To a quick return of stolen or other personal property when no longer needed as evidence.
  • To ask the District Attorney to file a criminal complaint.
