The Boating Safety Office has expanded its resources to include the Citizen Volunteer Lake Patrol.

Mission Statement

The Citizen Volunteer Patrol (C.V.P.) personnel will strive to enhance community safety and security through programs of crime prevention and education with active involvement in these efforts. The program is committed to providing qualified and trained volunteers to augment field operations in an active role in serving the needs of the citizens of the various communities throughout Shasta County.

Patrol Objectives

  • Provide a higher level of crime prevention programs to better serve the citizens of Shasta County in a cost-effective manner
  • Promote community awareness and acceptance of the Citizen Volunteer Patrol program as a viable and important prevention tool.
  • The Citizen volunteer program will be monitored monthly as to its effectiveness in the area of crime prevention and service to the communities it serves.
  • Provide high visibility "eyes & ears" patrol

What does it take to become a Citizen Volunteer Patrol member?

After an oral interview, all potential members must complete an application, which is submitted to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office will conduct a background investigation, which will include, but not limited to, fingerprinting, DMV and CII checks.

  • All applicants must be able to perform the duties as assigned.
  • All candidates must complete the 16-hour CVP academy.
  • All members must be at least 21 years of age and posses a valid California driver's license.
