CalWORKs Homeless Assistance

CalWORKs Homeless Assistance is available to families with children and pregnant persons who are currently receiving (or eligible for) CalWORKs who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

CalWORKs Homeless Assistance is granted for a continuous period of homelessness caused by specific circumstances and is available once every 12-months starting from the day the first payment is issued unless the recipient has a verified exception.

This program may provide:

  • Payments for up to 16 days of temporary shelter or payments related to permanent housing, including security or utility deposits, exceptions may apply
  • Up to two months of back rent
  • Special once-in-a-lifetime Homeless Assistance for CalWORKs applicants who are fleeing domestic abuse or need to

For application assistance and general resource referral, please contact our Community Health Advocates. They work directly with vulnerable clients to reduce barriers to housing, health care, food, education, and other personal needs, and can provide assistance in Spanish.

Community Health Advocates refer directly to the Health and Human Services Agency housing programs and work closely with eligibility workers and social workers to connect our community members to resources.
