Join MHADAB!
The Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board (MHADAB) is always recruiting for new members. Please feel free to submit your application any time.
MHADAB provides oversight of the local mental health system and alcohol and drug programs, and is composed of community members, individuals with mental illness or drug and alcohol addictions, and family members of people living with mental illness or drug and alcohol addictions.
Fifty percent (50%) of MHADAB membership shall be consumers or parents, spouses, siblings, or adult children of consumers, who have lived experiences of mental illness, who have received services. At least 20 percent (20%) of the total membership shall be consumers, and at least 20 percent (20%) shall be families of consumers, including a person who is 25 years or younger. In addition, one Board of Supervisor member and one veteran or veteran advocate shall be on the board. (“veteran advocate” means either a parent, spouse, or adult child of a veteran, or an individual who is part of a veteran’s organization, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars or the American Legion.). The remainder can have members from the aforementioned categories (there can be an overlap), and counties are encouraged "to appoint individuals who have experience with and knowledge of the mental health system". This would include members of the community that engage with individuals living with mental illness during daily operations, such as representatives of county veterans’ services offices, education community (required), law and justice, health community and representatives of community partners.
