What is community health data?

Community health data provides insight into the health of our community. It can help inform strategies to address the challenges we face.

Shasta County HHSA epidemiologists and analysts collect, track and analyze data for issues affecting our county. The data may be sourced from surveys conducted locally or from state and national dashboards.

The reports created by Shasta County HHSA are updated periodically. If you would like reports dated before 2020, or more current or additional information, please call HHSA’s Public Health Office at (530) 225-5591 and ask for an epidemiologist.

Birth, death and vital statistics

Vital statistics provide information about births, deaths, disease and health. Below, you will find year-end summaries of primary medical conditions that led to deaths for Shasta County.

See the Shasta County Births interactive story map for an overview of local birth statistics.

Communicable disease

These reports examine diseases spread from person to person and caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites or prions.

Community health assessments

Community health assessments provide an overview of the health status of Shasta County and specific populations within its borders.

For an overview of issues affecting the local Latino community, see the story map, An Assessment of Health in Shasta County Latino Communities.

Mental Health Performance Outcomes Reports

The reports linked below show performance outcomes for Medi-Cal Specialty Mental Health Services.

Violence data

Violence data can include information on deaths from suicide, homicide, firearm injury, and elder abuse.

For an overview of suicide data and local prevention efforts, see the You Matter Shasta Suicide Prevention Program story map.

Data dashboards

A data dashboard is a tool that provides a visual representation of data. It helps illustrate the health of our community and others.

The following data dashboards are managed by government agencies and organizations outside of Shasta County.

Story maps

Story maps combine multimedia, geography and data to explore a topic. They provide a dynamic look at issues using photo, video, interactive graphs and charts, and more.

Shasta County HHSA creates story maps to highlight current or pressing local health and social issues. They also feature information about county programs and community collaborations working to find solutions to these challenges.
