About Patients’ Rights Advocates

California Welfare and Institutions Code requires that each county mental health director appoint Patients’ Rights Advocates. The Advocates protect and further the Constitutional and statutory rights of individuals in mental health facilities. They act as a liaison to the California Office of Patients’ Rights.

Read the "Rights for Individuals in Mental Health Facilities" handbook on the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) website. It is available in several languages.
