Bike Helmets

California Law requires that anyone under age 18 must wear a helmet when riding a: bicycle, skateboard, scooter, or skates. However, people of all ages should wear a helmet!

Head injury is the leading cause of death in bicycle crashes and accounts for more than 60 percent of bicycle-related deaths, more than two-thirds of bicycle-related hospital admissions, and about one-third of hospital emergency room visits for bicycling injuries. Helmets can reduce the risk of head and brain injury by 85%.

Always wear a properly fitted helmet each time you ride. Replace any helmet that has been involved in a crash or is damaged. Always buckle your helmet and follow the rules of the road.

Bicycle helmets are available at many major retailers and local bike shops. We strongly encourage all cyclists, regardless of age, to always wear a properly fitted bike helmet.
