Pedometers

Pedometers are small devices that count the number of steps taken. 10,000 steps per day is roughly equivalent to meeting the Surgeon General's guidelines for physical activity (at least 30 minutes of moderate activity per day on most days of the week).

To get started, wear a pedometer from the time you get up in the morning until you go to bed. Track the number of steps you take each day for 3 days. Then set a goal to increase your steps 10% per week. Each week, revise your objective until you work up to at least 10,000 steps per day (or another personal goal ). If your ultimate aim is weight loss, continue to revise your goal until you work up to about 12,000 to 15,000 steps per day.
