There are things you can do to reduce your risk of Alzheimer's and related dementias. You can reduce your risk with the 10 "Care For Your Brain" tips, which include:
- Exercising for at least 2.5 hours a week at a moderate intensity (you are breaking a sweat).
- Adapt a healthy diet, such as the Mediterranean Diet.
- Keep learning. Take a class for fun, at places such as a local community college.
- Socialize and continue to connect with friends and family.
- Get sleep, at least 7 to 9 hours a night.
- Acknowledge your mental health and seek treatment if needed.
- Challenge your brain by learning a new skill.
- Create healthy habits by quitting smoking and reducing alcohol consumption.
- Protect your head by wearing a seat belt and using a helmet for recreation.
- Love your heart by reducing high blood pressure and preventing diabetes.
