Where can I find my birth certificate?
- Shasta County Public Health has birth certificates on file from two-years from date of registration.
- For all other years, please contact the County Recorder’s office at (530) 225-5678.
How do I apply for a copy of a birth certificate?
- Birth certificates are $32 each and can be purchased at our office.

Where can I register a home birth?
- All home births must be registered within one year of birth.
- Home birth registrations are by appointment only.

- Shasta County Public Health has death certificates on file from two-years from date of registration.

How do I apply for a copy of death/fetal death certificates?
- Death certificates are $24 each, fetal death certificates are $21 each and they can be purchased at our office.

Can I get help with amending a death certificate?
- Shasta County Public Health and funeral homes can assist with amending a death certificate. Please call our office for more information.
How can I get burial permits?
- A burial permit is required prior to disposition of human remains.
- Burial permits can be issued through our office or though funeral homes.
- The cost of a burial permit is $12. A death certificate or prior burial permit is required to purchase a burial permit.
- Walk-in appointments for burial permits are welcome, or call our office to schedule an appointment.
What are the services for funeral homes?
- Application for authorized certified copies of death certificate (for funeral homes only).
- Requests must be received by 3:30 pm for next day issuance (unless the record is pending state registration).

What if I have an after-hours emergency filing?
- After-hours filing is available on weekends and holidays for the immediate filing of death certificates.
- The need for an “emergency” filing must be demonstrated (i.e. religious reasons, shipping out of the county, etc.).
- Our emergency filing after hours: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and all Shasta County holidays.
