Where can I find my birth certificate?

  • Shasta County Public Health has birth certificates on file from two-years from date of registration.
  • For all other years, please contact the County Recorder’s office at (530) 225-5678.

Where can I register a home birth?

  • All home births must be registered within one year of birth.
  • Home birth registrations are by appointment only.
  • To make an appointment, please call our office.
     

Amendments, acknowledgement of paternity, delayed registration of birth:

If you need to make a change to a birth certificate, add the father to the birth certificate, or register your home birth after your baby’s first birthday, please contact our office. You can also download more information here:

Can I get help with amending a death certificate?

  • Shasta County Public Health and funeral homes can assist with amending a death certificate. Please call our office for more information.
     

How can I get burial permits?

  • A burial permit is required prior to disposition of human remains.
  • Burial permits can be issued through our office or though funeral homes.
  • The cost of a burial permit is $12. A death certificate or prior burial permit is required to purchase a burial permit.
  • Walk-in appointments for burial permits are welcome, or call our office to schedule an appointment.

What if I have an after-hours emergency filing?

  • After-hours filing is available on weekends and holidays for the immediate filing of death certificates.
  • The need for an “emergency” filing must be demonstrated (i.e. religious reasons, shipping out of the county, etc.).  
  • Our emergency filing after hours: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and all Shasta County holidays.
