Water Testing

Notice: Water samples MUST arrive to lab COLD for testing. Shipping on Cold Pack required,  samples MUST also be collected in bottle supplied by Shasta County Public Health Lab to be acceptable.

The Public Health Lab is certified by the Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP), and able to test for and detect the presence of harmful bacteria in private or public drinking water.  The test methods are able to differentiate whether water contains soil or fecal contamination.

Fees for Water Testing (payable by cash, check or credit card. No American Express). Water samples accepted for testing Monday through Thursday.

  • Drinking water, standard Colilert test: $30
  • Drinking water, 51-Well Quanti-Tray: $38
  • Surface Water, Quanti-Tray 2000 - $39

Water testing kits are available at the main Public Health Office located at:

Note: Due to cancellation of local next-day U.S. Mail delivery, all water samples must be delivered in person or sent overnight delivery by FedEx or UPS. Samples cannot be sent through U.S. Mail.
