Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination. These antibodies protect against infection. Because it can take this long for the flu shot to work fully, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting an annual flu shot by the end of October.
Flu shots are also provided by healthcare providers, retail pharmacies and, for free, at the Shasta County Public Health Clinic. To make an appointment at the Public Health Clinic, call (530) 225-5591 or 1-800-971-1999 or sign up at MyTurn.ca.gov.
For information on flu shots and all recommended vaccinations, visit ShastaShots.com or call (530) 225-5591.
