What is Alzheimer’s Disease?

Alzheimer’s Disease is a brain disease and is the most common type of dementia. It damages parts of the brain that control thought, memory, and language. Symptoms worsen with time and can affect a person’s ability to carry out daily activities. Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging.

What are related disorders?

The phrase "Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders" (ADRD) is becoming more common. Although Alzheimer’s Disease is the cause of anywhere from 60-80 percent of dementias, there are other types, which include:

  1. Dementia with Lewy bodies
  2. Frontotemporal Dementia
  3. Mixed Dementia 
  4. Parkinson's Disease Dementia
  5. Vascular Dementia
  6. Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)
